Al Tamimi Diyala funds the state treasury with 11 billion dinars monthly in exchange for five hours of electricity supply.

Riyadh Al-Tamimi said on Thursday that Diyala Governorate contributes around 11 billion Iraqi dinars every month to the state treasury through electricity bill collections, despite residents receiving only about five hours of electricity supply per day.

Al-Tamimi said Diyala ranks first among Iraqi provinces in electricity bill payments, even surpassing provinces with larger populations. He described this as proof of the strong commitment of Diyala residents to paying their electricity dues.

He added that the province still suffers from extremely poor electricity supply, with power available for an average of only five hours daily, and sometimes even less. According to him, many residents see this as unfair treatment compared to other provinces.

Al-Tamimi warned that public frustration is continuing to grow, noting that there are increasing calls for demonstrations and protests over the electricity situation.

He also urged the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity to review its electricity distribution schedules and adopt fairer standards to ensure Diyala receives a more balanced share of power supply.
