Ibtisam Al-Hilali said on Thursday that several important laws are expected to move forward after the Eid holiday, including the long-discussed oil and gas law aimed at resolving disputes between Baghdad and Kurdistan Region.

Al-Hilali, a member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, said the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee has reached understandings with the government on preparing and organizing the draft oil and gas law, with active participation from the Legal Committee.

She explained that the proposed law is intended to regulate the production and export of Iraq’s oil wealth and help end the ongoing disagreements between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region over the management of the oil sector.

According to Al-Hilali, the next legislative session will also focus on discussing and completing several laws that affect a large segment of Iraqi citizens.

She said the most important of these include amendments to the State Employees’ Retirement and Discipline Law, along with finalizing legislation that determines the legal retirement age.
