Dogecoin fans honor Kabosu on Doge Day as DOGE trades below $0.10

Dogecoin supporters celebrated International Doge Day on November 2 with tributes to Kabosu, the Shiba Inu whose image became the face of the famous Doge meme. Meanwhile, DOGE traded near $0.074, around 90% below its all-time high.

Summary

  • DogeOS and FLOKI shared tributes honoring Kabosu and the community built around her image.
  • Sakura City in Japan hosted a Doge Day gathering at Kabosu’s bronze statue.
  • DOGE traded near $0.074, with a market capitalization of approximately $11.5 billion.
  • The formation of Dogecoin Labs has introduced new plans for wallets, payments, and applications built around DOGE.

DogeOS and FLOKI marked the occasion with November 2 posts on X, sharing images and messages celebrating the dog whose face became one of the internet’s most recognizable memes.

“From memes to movements,” DogeOS wrote alongside an illustration showing Doge characters enjoying a picnic, games, and a barbecue under a “Happy Doge Day” banner.

FLOKI also paid tribute to Kabosu and the community’s “Do Only Good Everyday” motto. Its image showed two Shiba Inus beside a sign marking November 2, 2026, as International Doge Day.

“One Shiba Inu. A legendary meme. A legacy that brings people together across the world,” the project wrote.

Doge Day celebrates Kabosu in her Japanese hometown

This year’s event listing identified Sakura Furusato Square in Sakura City, Japan, as the celebration venue. Admission was free, with appearances scheduled by Kabosu’s owner, Atsuko Sato, the city’s mayor, and representatives of Own The Doge.

The annual celebration is organized by Own The Doge and Sato and takes place on Kabosu’s birthday. The venue is also home to the bronze statue unveiled in her honor on November 2, 2023.

In October 2023, the Dogecoin community launched a campaign to build the statue, raising more than $42,000 in cryptocurrency donations within its first 72 hours.

The Dogecoin Foundation later reported that the fundraising total had reached nearly $100,000. Kabosu died on May 24, 2024, at the age of 18.

Sato, a kindergarten teacher in Sakura, adopted Kabosu after she was rescued from a puppy mill. The Foundation said Sato used the attention surrounding her dog to promote animal rescue and adoption.

Kabosu’s expression became the center of the Doge meme, which later inspired Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer to create Dogecoin in December 2013. The Foundation describes Dogecoin’s early use as a fun way for social media users to send small amounts of cryptocurrency to one another.

Dogecoin remains far below its record price

CoinGecko data showed DOGE trading near $0.07371 at the time of reporting. The token was down approximately 2.1% over 24 hours and 4.4% over seven days.

Its market capitalization stood at around $11.5 billion, placing it 12th among cryptocurrencies tracked by the platform. Daily trading volume was approximately $367 million.

Compared with its recorded all-time high of $0.7316, Dogecoin was still almost 90% lower. A move from $0.07371 to $0.10 would require a gain of roughly 35.7%.

The Doge Day messages from DogeOS and FLOKI did not include specific price predictions. Instead, both projects focused on Kabosu’s legacy, community participation, and the history of the meme.

Dogecoin Labs brings three product teams together

Alongside the anniversary celebrations, Dogecoin-related development teams have also undergone a major reorganization.

An October announcement outlined plans to bring MyDoge, DogeOS, and Such App together under Dogecoin Labs. The goal is to combine wallet distribution, application development, and payment tools for merchants.

House of Doge said the Dogecoin Foundation had designated Labs as its official commercial partner.

Jordan Jefferson leads the organization, with MyDoge and DogeOS co-founder Alex Lewis and Foundation director Tim Stebbing also involved.

DogeOS opened its public developer testnet on September 30, allowing developers to build Ethereum-compatible applications that use DOGE to pay transaction fees.

Its launch announcements highlighted projects involving trading, lending, stablecoins, and gaming.

MoonPay separately announced native DOGE support across its network of more than 6,000 merchants in June. The company said businesses could receive payments settled in traditional currencies or stablecoins.

House of Doge retains investment-product rights

In the US investment market, a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission describes a replacement, nonexclusive licensing agreement covering existing 21Shares Dogecoin products, including TDOG and TXXD.

The filing also records an agreement to transfer Such App assets to Dogecoin Labs in exchange for shares valued at $4 million.

The transaction had not closed when the agreement was disclosed. It remained subject to conditions including lender approvals and the transfer of assets.

Under the terminated commercial agreement, House of Doge and its US subsidiary agreed to change their corporate names and stop using the Dogecoin Foundation’s “Official Corporate Arm” or “Official Commercial Partner” descriptions before December 31, 2026.
