Iraq’s Ministry of Finance is looking to strengthen cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as part of its efforts to support economic growth and development projects across the country.

Finance Minister Falah Sari met with EBRD Iraq Country Head Katarina Bjorlin Hansen on Sunday to discuss ways to expand financial and technical cooperation and support Iraq’s development goals.

During the meeting, the minister said the government is focused on improving the management of public finances and directing resources toward productive sectors that can drive economic growth and development. He explained that these efforts are aligned with the government’s broader development programme and aim to deliver benefits across Iraq’s provinces.

Sari also stressed that supporting development projects, especially in agriculture and infrastructure, remains a key priority for the ministry. He added that the government is working to create a better environment for investment and production by providing the necessary support and facilities.

For her part, Hansen reaffirmed the EBRD’s commitment to supporting Iraq’s economic and financial reforms. She highlighted the bank’s ongoing programmes in areas such as energy, water, banking support, and financing for private-sector projects.

The discussions reflect Iraq’s continued efforts to attract international support and investment while advancing projects that can strengthen the economy and improve services throughout the country.
