Diaa Abdul Karim, a researcher in economics, said on Thursday that Iraq doesn’t need to build an oil pipeline to get to the port of Aqaba. He said that because Iraq exports certain amounts of oil based on what OPEC decides, its exports won’t go up if there are more places to sell it.
“The step of extending the oil pipeline towards the port of Aqaba on Jordanian territory is not a correct step at the moment, as it will cost Iraq large sums of money that cannot be compensated by oil exports,” Abdul Karim stated.
“OPEC has its own laws and regulations that it operates by,” he continued, “each oil country determines the quantities it exports through its export outlets, and Iraq currently exports more than 3 million barrels without any difficulties.”
He said, “The current oil export outlets did not suffer any pressure or problems, in addition to the fact that increasing the number of outlets does not mean increasing the quantities of oil exported, especially since there are specific quantities for export.” Additionally, he said, “The current oil export outlets did not suffer any pressure or problems.”
