The Federal Integrity Commission announced on Tuesday that a court has sentenced two former officials in Salah al-Din Governorate to three years of rigorous imprisonment for embezzling funds allocated to a project.
In a statement, the Commission said the Salah al-Din Criminal Court issued the sentences in absentia against the former directors of the governorate’s auditing and warehouses departments.
The case involved the embezzlement of money allocated for a project. The court based its ruling on Article 318 of Iraq’s Penal Code No. 111 of 1969.
The Commission added that the court reviewed the evidence presented in the case and found it sufficient to convict both former officials, leading to the three-year prison sentences.
