Gas Processing Plant Opens at Garraf Oil Field

A new system for processing and using associated gas has started operating at the second separation station of the Garraf oil field in Dhi Qar. The system can process between 15 and 22 million standard cubic feet of gas per day. The opening ceremony was held under the supervision of Oil Minister Basim Muhammad Khudhair al-Abadi.

According to the Ministry of Oil, Dhi Qar Oil Company Director General Said Zuhayr Shalaga said the project will increase the total amount of associated gas processed at the field to 37 million cubic feet per day during the first phase of operations.

The project was completed by local staff from Dhi Qar Oil Company in coordination with Petronas and subcontractor Italfluid.

The project is part of Iraq’s efforts to make better use of associated gas produced during oil extraction, reduce gas flaring, and limit the environmental damage caused by burning gas.
