A security force affiliated with Iraq’s Federal Integrity Commission arrested Deputy Minister of Electricity for Transmission and Distribution Affairs Khalid Ghazi Atiyah on Friday, according to informed sources.
The sources said Atiyah was taken into custody, but no official details have been released regarding the reasons for the arrest or any potential charges against him.
The arrest comes amid ongoing anti-corruption efforts within Iraq’s electricity sector.
Last month, the Ministry of Electricity dismissed the general manager of the Central Electricity Distribution Company, Alaa Samir, along with his office director over corruption allegations. The ministry also imposed penalties on eight department heads accused of being involved in fictitious and forged transactions.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement providing further information about the case involving the deputy minister.
