The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) says investment in the Kurdistan Region has now surpassed $25 billion, marking a major step in its efforts to diversify the economy and reduce dependence on a single source of revenue.
According to the KRG, a total of 856 investment projects worth approximately $25.3 billion have been launched across a wide range of sectors. Officials say these projects are creating tens of thousands of jobs and helping build a stronger and more sustainable economy for the region.
The housing sector attracted the largest share of investment, with 102 projects worth more than $8.5 billion. These projects are aimed at expanding housing options and supporting urban development across the region.
Tourism ranked second, receiving nearly $7.9 billion across 118 projects. The KRG hopes these investments will strengthen the Kurdistan Region’s position as a major tourist destination and attract more local and international visitors.
The industrial sector also saw significant growth, with 205 projects worth nearly $5 billion. Officials say these investments are helping boost local manufacturing, create jobs, and reduce reliance on imported goods.
Meanwhile, the trade sector recorded the highest number of projects overall, with 246 projects valued at approximately $1.9 billion, supporting commercial activity and market expansion throughout the region.
Agriculture remains a key focus for food security. The KRG reported 30 agricultural projects worth more than $638 million, aimed at supporting farmers, increasing production, and strengthening self-sufficiency.
Investment has also expanded in education and healthcare. The region implemented 73 education and training projects valued at more than $551 million, while 47 healthcare projects, including hospitals and medical facilities, received investments totaling over $451 million.
Other sectors also benefited from investment, including:
- Sports: 19 projects worth more than $150 million
- Services: 10 projects worth over $105 million
- Arts: 3 projects valued at more than $76 million
- Banking: 3 projects worth approximately $22 million, aimed at improving financial infrastructure
The KRG says the investment growth reflects increasing confidence from both local and international investors. Officials believe these projects will play a key role in strengthening economic diversification, creating employment opportunities, and supporting long-term development across the Kurdistan Region.
