A new report suggests that the Iraqi Ministry of Finance has temporarily delayed salary payments for government employees due to a short-term cash liquidity shortage.
According to an informed source, the Ministry of Finance and the Accounting Department decided to postpone the disbursement of salaries for employees in ministries and government institutions by three days. The source said the delay is linked to a temporary lack of available cash liquidity.
The development has reportedly triggered an immediate response from the Parliamentary Finance Committee. The committee is expected to summon the Minister of Finance along with the Directors General of the Accounting and Budget Departments in the coming hours to discuss the situation.
The source said the meeting will likely take place either within the committee or at the Parliament building. Lawmakers are seeking a detailed explanation of the current liquidity conditions and the factors that led to the unexpected suspension of salary funding.
Members of the committee are also expected to request clarification on the government’s plans to resolve the issue and ensure that employee salaries are paid without further delays.
If confirmed, the postponement would raise concerns among public-sector workers, as salary payments are a critical source of income for millions of Iraqi families. Officials have not yet released a formal public statement explaining the reported liquidity shortage or providing a revised payment schedule.
