Iraq’s Ministry of Planning has held talks with the World Bank on reforming the government procurement system, including plans to introduce electronic procurement and improve transparency in government contracts.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister for Administrative Affairs Dr. Hana Ismail Al-Asadi. Participants included Sandeep Mahajan, the World Bank’s Regional Director for Prosperity in the Middle East, and Lena Al-Abbasi, the Bank’s contracting consultant. Officials from the Ministry’s Government Contracts Department also attended.

According to the Ministry of Planning, the discussions focused on key procurement reforms across different sectors, aligning government contracting policies with national priorities, and improving the skills of staff through specialized training programmes.

The talks are part of efforts to make Iraq’s government procurement system more transparent, reliable and efficient through stronger procedures and the use of electronic systems.
