Iraq and the Czech Republic are working to strengthen economic and trade cooperation following discussions between officials from Iraq’s Ministry of Trade and representatives of the Czech Embassy in Baghdad.
During the meeting, Riyad al-Hashimi, Director General of the Department of Foreign Economic Relations, proposed holding the fifth session of the Iraqi-Czech Joint Committee before the end of 2026 or in early 2027. He also suggested establishing an Iraqi-Czech Business Council to enhance cooperation between private-sector companies in both countries and invited Czech firms to participate in the upcoming Baghdad International Fair.
For his part, Czech diplomat Michal Svoboda said the Czech Embassy intends to organize a business forum that will bring together Czech companies, Iraqi government institutions, and private-sector representatives. The forum is expected to focus on opportunities in areas such as sustainable resource management, water conservation, water treatment, and water reuse technologies.
The discussions reflect Iraq’s efforts to attract foreign investment, expand international partnerships, and benefit from foreign expertise in infrastructure and environmental projects. Increased cooperation with Czech companies could create opportunities in sectors such as water management, engineering, industrial development, and technology transfer.
If these initiatives move forward, they could help boost bilateral trade, encourage private-sector partnerships, and open new investment opportunities between Iraq and the Czech Republic.
