Iraq is continuing efforts to attract foreign investment, with officials from the Ministry of Trade meeting representatives of the Emirati-Iraqi Business Council to discuss opportunities in the Iraqi market and ways to encourage greater participation by UAE companies.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Dr. Malik Khalaf al-Durei’i, Director General of the Private Sector Development Department, attended the council’s periodic meeting at its headquarters. Discussions focused on improving the investment climate for Emirati businesses and strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting also examined practical steps to create a more business-friendly environment, including addressing challenges that may be limiting investment activity and exploring mechanisms to facilitate the work of the Emirati-Iraqi Business Council and its members.
The talks reflect Iraq’s broader strategy of attracting foreign capital, supporting private-sector growth, and expanding partnerships with regional investors. Increased Emirati investment could contribute to projects across sectors such as infrastructure, industry, trade, real estate, energy, and services.
If successful, these efforts could help boost investment flows into Iraq, create employment opportunities, and strengthen economic ties between Iraq and the United Arab Emirates.
