Iraq has signed a new partnership agreement with German company Sutco RecyclingTechnik GmbH to develop an integrated waste management system, with support from the Iraqi Ministry of Environment and the German Embassy in Baghdad.
The agreement was signed through the General Company for Carbon Economics and aims to improve the way waste is collected, transported, and treated across the country.
Under the project, around 6,000 tonnes of waste per day will be processed. The plan also includes producing high-value fertilizers and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from waste materials, turning environmental challenges into useful resources.
Officials say the project will help create new jobs, reduce carbon emissions, and modernize Iraq’s waste management sector, making it more efficient and environmentally friendly.
