Iraq is moving forward with plans for two major crude oil export pipeline projects as part of its strategy to strengthen energy infrastructure and expand export capacity.
A high-level meeting was recently held to review the technical and economic details of the Basra-Haditha pipeline, which will extend to Fishkhabur, and the Haditha-Baniyas pipeline. Both projects are considered key components of Iraq’s long-term energy and export plans.
The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi and attended by the Minister of Oil, senior officials from the ministry, the director of the Prime Minister’s Office, and representatives from the companies involved in implementing the projects.
Discussions focused on the expected economic benefits of the pipelines, their role in supporting future development, and the volume of crude oil that could be exported through the new routes once completed.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the projects are expected to play an important role in strengthening Iraq’s oil sector by creating additional export channels and reducing reliance on existing routes.
During the meeting, Al-Zaidi instructed the Ministry of Oil to provide all necessary support and requirements needed by the companies responsible for construction. He emphasized the importance of completing the projects according to the highest technical and engineering standards.
The Prime Minister also called for immediate action to begin implementation without delays, highlighting the strategic value of the pipelines for the country’s economy and energy security.
Al-Zaidi described the projects as vital national infrastructure that will help diversify Iraq’s crude oil export routes, increase export flexibility, and enhance the country’s ability to reach international markets.
The pipelines are expected to strengthen Iraq’s position as a major energy exporter while providing greater resilience against potential disruptions affecting individual export corridors.
As Iraq continues to invest in its oil and gas infrastructure, the Basra-Haditha-Fishkhabur and Haditha-Baniyas pipelines are viewed as important projects that could support long-term economic growth and improve the country’s energy export capabilities for years to come.
