The Iraqi Private Banks League (IPBL) has signed a new agreement with the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) in Washington, D.C., to help support Iraq’s transition toward a greener economy and strengthen the country’s energy sector.
The memorandum of understanding was signed during Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s visit to the United States. The agreement was signed by IPBL President Wadee Al Handal and AEE Executive Director William Kent.
According to the Iraqi Private Banks League, the partnership will focus on helping Iraq’s banking sector play a larger role in financing clean energy and infrastructure projects.
One of the main goals of the agreement is to support funding for solar energy projects across Iraq. The partnership will also help connect Iraqi institutions with international financial organizations, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), to support improvements to the country’s electricity grid.
The agreement also includes training and knowledge-sharing programs aimed at developing local expertise. These initiatives will provide internationally recognized professional certifications and help build skills within Iraq’s banking and energy sectors.
In addition, AEE will provide technical advisory services to government ministries, municipalities, and financial institutions on projects related to carbon reduction and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.
The partnership is part of broader efforts to modernize Iraq’s energy infrastructure, attract investment, and support sustainable economic growth while reducing environmental impact.
