Iraq’s Ministry of Trade is working with the International Trade Centre (ITC) to develop a national trade policy and a National Trade and Investment Strategy.
Officials from both sides met to discuss the main sectors and issues that the two documents should cover. They also reviewed the proposed approach and agreed to work on the next stages of development.
The Iraqi side was led by Dr. Malik Khalaf al-Durai’i, Director General of the Private Sector Development Department at the Ministry of Trade.
Both sides stressed that the plans should be based on a clear analysis of Iraq’s economic and trade conditions. This includes identifying existing challenges, gaps and opportunities.
The goal is to support private businesses, diversify Iraq’s economy and help local companies gain better access to regional and international markets.
