Iraq and Turkey have completed a draft framework agreement aimed at developing transport infrastructure between the two countries, with representatives from both sides signing the document on Wednesday.
According to Iraq’s Ministry of Transport, the draft was finalized after a series of intensive meetings that addressed legal, technical, financial, and operational matters. Officials and specialists from both countries participated in the discussions to ensure all key aspects of the project were covered.
Mohammed Habib, Director of the General Company for Iraqi Railways and Iraq’s representative in the talks, said the agreement includes a detailed program for implementing sections of the Development Road project. The plan outlines implementation phases based on approved technical priorities and scheduled timelines.
The signed draft will now be submitted to the relevant senior authorities in Iraq and Turkey for final review and approval in accordance with legal procedures. Once ratified, the two countries can move forward with implementation.
The Ministry of Transport noted that Transport Minister Wahab Salman Mohammed played a major role in advancing cooperation between Iraq and Turkey, helping to activate previous memoranda of understanding and strengthen partnership efforts in the transport sector.
