A senior engineer from Iraq’s Electricity Ministry suffered severe burns on Tuesday after a circuit breaker exploded inside a power station in the Al-Khalis district of Diyala Province.
According to local reports, the injured engineer is the head of the Al-Khalis Electricity Maintenance Center. He was carrying out work at the station when the explosion occurred.
Another employee who was with him at the time was also injured in the incident.
Emergency teams responded quickly, and the injured workers were taken for medical treatment. The exact cause of the explosion has not yet been officially announced.
The incident highlights the risks faced by electricity workers who operate and maintain critical power infrastructure across the country.
