Iraqi presidency denies agreement on election law amendments with Shiite leaders

The claims that leaders from the Shiite Coordination Framework had reached a deal to change Iraq’s election law were dismissed as unfounded and aimed at inciting political unrest by the Presidency of Iraq on Saturday.

The allegations that circulated on social media suggested that the Presidency and the Coordination Framework had reached an agreement to draft amendments to the election law were refuted in a statement released by the Presidency.

In the statement, it was stated that “We categorically deny these fabricated reports, which are mere rumors intended to create confusion in the political arena.” As we work to improve communication between political allies and advance the government’s program, we will be forced to take legal action against those who spread these lies at the expense of society’s peace and security.
