Iraq aims to increase its oil production capacity to around 10 million barrels per day by 2030 under a new strategic plan covering the 2027–2030 period.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi chaired a meeting at the Ministry of Oil, attended by the ministers of oil and finance along with several government advisers, to review the plan and its implementation roadmap.
The strategy focuses on expanding oil production capacity, boosting export capabilities, and strengthening the overall energy sector. Al-Zaidi emphasized the importance of fully utilizing associated gas to meet domestic energy demand, reduce waste, and ultimately eliminate Iraq’s reliance on imported gas.
The prime minister also called for increased production from oil fields in the Kurdistan Region and urged the expansion of exploration activities and the development of new exploration blocks across the country.
As part of the initiative, the Ministry of Oil has been directed to organize a major international conference involving leading global energy companies. The event is expected to attract investment, advanced technology, and technical expertise to support Iraq’s exploration, production, development, and export projects.
The government views the plan as a key step toward strengthening Iraq’s energy sector, increasing revenues, and improving long-term energy security.
