KBR in West Qurna-1 Gas Compressor Station Contract

KBR has secured a new contract from AKT Oil Services Company, also known as Abraj Al-Kut Oil Services Company, to provide detailed engineering design services for the West Qurna-1 Low-Pressure Gas Capture Project in Iraq.

The project is part of Basra Gas Company’s efforts to capture more natural gas and reduce gas flaring across southern Iraq.

Under the agreement, KBR will handle detailed engineering design work for Gas Compressor Station 6 at the West Qurna-1 oil field. The project aims to collect low-pressure associated gas that is currently being burned off and put it to use in Iraq’s domestic energy sector.

AKT is carrying out the project under an engineering, procurement and construction contract with Basra Gas Company.

KBR Vice President for the Middle East, Euan McCulloch, said the contract builds on the company’s long history in Iraq. He added that KBR will continue supporting projects focused on energy security, making better use of natural gas and reducing environmental impact across the region.

Meanwhile, KBR’s Mission Technology Solutions business is expected to become an independent publicly traded company in January 2027 under the new name Trinzic.
