Lebanese political writer and strategic researcher Mohammed Hazimeh said on Tuesday that the U.S. war on Iran did not achieve its planned goals and instead revealed the limits of American influence in the Middle East.
Speaking to dinaropinions.com, Hazimeh said the conflict has created major consequences across the region and around the world, changing the nature of international competition and showing what he described as America’s strategic goals in the region.
He said the United States has spent decades using its economic and military power, along with the influence of the dollar and regional alliances, to shape global affairs. However, he added that changes in the international system and the rise of new powers, especially China, have reduced Washington’s ability to impose its decisions like before.
Hazimeh said the U.S. has attempted to reshape the Middle East through different political and security projects, but Iran and its allies were able to resist these efforts and prevent the creation of what he called the “New Middle East” project.
He explained that the recent conflict with Iran did not deliver the military and political results expected by the United States. Instead, he said it showed the challenges Washington faces in trying to create new regional realities amid growing global changes.
Hazimeh added that the confrontation with Iran proved that the balance of power in the Middle East has changed. According to him, any attempt to establish control through force will face major challenges as the world moves toward a more multipolar order.
He concluded that the future of American influence in the Middle East is now facing a serious test as global power dynamics continue to shift.
