Finance Minister Falih Sari has confirmed that Iraq will continue its efforts to modernize the country’s banking, tax, and customs systems while improving the way government budgets are prepared and managed.

During a meeting with Australian Ambassador to Iraq Glenn Miles, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen economic ties and expand cooperation in the financial and banking sectors.

According to the Ministry of Finance, Sari stressed the importance of building strong international partnerships and said Iraq is interested in benefiting from Australia’s experience in supporting development projects and helping diversify the economy.

He explained that the ministry is moving forward with a series of reforms aimed at improving financial management and increasing the efficiency of government institutions. These efforts include upgrading banking services, modernizing tax and customs procedures, and developing more effective budget planning systems.

Sari noted that these reforms are part of a broader strategy to strengthen Iraq’s economy, improve public sector performance, and create a more modern and efficient financial system.

For his part, Ambassador Glenn Miles expressed Australia’s willingness to deepen cooperation with Iraq and share expertise that could support the country’s economic reform efforts and financial sector development.

The meeting reflects Iraq’s ongoing efforts to attract international expertise and partnerships as it works to modernize its economy and reduce its dependence on traditional sources of revenue.
