An Iraqi lawmaker says foreign influence is limiting the country’s ability to make its own decisions.

MP Hamid Abbas said continued US pressure on key state institutions is holding Iraq back, especially when it comes to managing its resources and building strong partnerships with other countries.

He argued that this situation prevents Iraq from making the most of its own wealth and from forming balanced economic ties around the world.

According to him, the next prime minister needs to make this a top priority—breaking away from this dependency and restoring full control over political and economic decisions.

Abbas also called for diversifying Iraq’s international relationships, instead of relying too heavily on one side, saying this is key to long-term stability and sovereignty.
