A senior Iraqi politician is claiming that outside pressure is delaying an important law for the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).
Hussein Mounis, head of the Rights Movement, said the hold-up in passing the service and retirement law for PMF members is not just a legal or technical issue.
He believes there is an external veto—led by the United States—aimed at stopping the law from moving forward. He also claimed that this pressure is part of a wider effort to weaken Iraq’s security institutions.
According to Mounis, the proposed law would give PMF members the same legal and financial rights as other armed forces, and blocking it denies them that protection.
He argued that Iraq should respond by quickly passing laws that support the PMF and protect their rights, without giving in to outside influence.
Mounis also stressed that parliament has a responsibility to support this group, which he says played a key role in defending the country.
These claims reflect his position and have not been independently verified. Mobilization Forces law
