Ahmed al-Shammari said on Wednesday that Parliament and oversight authorities are preparing to reopen the well-known “Steal of the Century” case in the coming days. He stressed that efforts are underway to expose and pursue everyone involved in the major corruption case without exceptions.
Al-Shammari said the coming period could bring major and unexpected developments, adding that those responsible would be identified and referred to the courts regardless of their political position, party affiliation, or government role. He also confirmed that the committee is determined to recover the stolen funds and hold all those involved accountable.
He claimed the case faced deliberate delays and cover-ups during the previous government because of pressure and interference from influential political groups seeking to protect their interests and illegal profits.
According to Al-Shammari, the committee now has new evidence and indicators that could lead to more suspects appearing before the Iraqi judiciary as part of efforts to end impunity in the case. Parliamentary Integrity
