Parliamentarian on Personal Status Law: Objections have become few and we will proceed with it

The Personal Status Law will be put to a vote during the upcoming sessions, according to MP Yasser Al-Husseini, who noted that many MPs support the law.

“Amending the Personal Status Law according to Islamic Sharia is a constitutional right, and we must not be carried away by political whims in enacting laws,” Al-Husseini stated in a statement to

He continued by noting that “there is political acceptance and agreement to proceed with the law, especially after the Coordination Framework announced its full support for passing it” and that “objections to the law have become few after those concerned clarified the real details of its paragraphs.”

He noted that “much of what has been announced in the media is contrary to reality regarding personal status” and that “the proposal to amend the Personal Status Law will be presented for the first reading during the next few sessions.”

The Coordination Framework urged the House of Representatives to proceed with the first reading of the Personal Status Law and announced its position on the law as well as the most significant terms that were suspected.
