Former Parliamentary Finance Committee member Mohammed Ibrahim has criticized the government’s approach to preparing the upcoming budget, saying it appears to be repeating the same policies used by previous governments instead of addressing Iraq’s deeper financial challenges.
Ibrahim said that focusing on contract and temporary workers without first ensuring stable funding for permanent employees shows confusion in the budget planning process. He argued that simply converting contract workers into permanent staff should not be viewed as a major achievement while larger economic issues remain unresolved. salaries
According to Ibrahim, the government should concentrate on finding new sources of revenue to strengthen the budget, activating the sovereign wealth fund, supporting industrial growth, and developing productive sectors that can reduce Iraq’s dependence on oil income.
He also warned that repeating the same budget strategies used in the past is not the right path forward. In his view, the budget needs a comprehensive review aimed at strengthening state revenues and ensuring employees receive their financial rights and compensation in the years ahead.
