Jamal Ahmed, a member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, said the Iraqi government currently does not have the financial ability to increase employee salaries through a new salary scale.
Speaking on the issue, Ahmed said many Iraqis are already facing economic difficulties, while concerns continue to grow about the government’s ability to provide financial entitlements and salaries to all eligible employees and groups.
He explained that although the government is expected to continue paying existing salaries, any plan to amend the employee salary scale is not being considered at this time. According to Ahmed, such a move would require a large amount of additional funding that the government does not currently have.
Ahmed added that employees have a legitimate need for salary scale adjustments, but the financial burden of higher wages makes it difficult for the government to move forward with the proposal under current economic conditions.
