MP Jassim Al-Alawi said a broad parliamentary effort is underway to protect the rights of contract workers and daily wage earners in Iraq’s 2027 federal budget. He stressed that these workers have provided important services to state institutions and deserve a final solution to their financial and administrative issues.
Speaking to dinaropinions.com, Al-Alawi said MPs are working with the relevant parliamentary committees to ensure that the rights of contract workers and daily wage earners are not ignored or delayed in the 2027 budget. He added that current economic and living conditions require the government and Parliament to provide the necessary funding to meet their entitlements without further delays.
He warned that continued delays are increasing job insecurity for thousands of workers in government service departments and institutions. He said Parliament wants fair treatment for these workers to be a condition for approving the budget’s financial provisions.
According to Al-Alawi, the measures should include job security, payment of outstanding wages, and adjustments to salary scales to address complaints that have built up over recent years.
He stressed that treating these workers fairly is essential for stable government operations across all Iraqi provinces. He added that Parliament would not allow their entitlements to be compromised or reduced for financial reasons.
