Iraq is discussing a major Indian investment that would establish a pipe manufacturing complex in Basra to produce oil, gas, and water pipelines for local infrastructure projects and the domestic market.
The proposal was reviewed during a meeting between Iraq’s National Investment Commission (NIC) and representatives of Man Industries.
NIC Chairman Adel Dakhil Muhammad Al-Yasiri said the commission is prepared to support the project by coordinating land allocation, facilitating approvals, and helping complete the required investment procedures. He also highlighted incentives available under Iraq’s investment law, including:
- Tax and customs exemptions for up to 10 years.
- Freedom to transfer funds and profits.
- Protection for domestic products.
- Support for importing technical expertise.
- Training opportunities for Iraqi workers.
Representatives from Man Industries said they selected Basra because of its strategic position near Iraq’s major oil-producing regions and seaports. They believe the location would allow the facility to supply pipelines across Iraq while also serving as a center for industrial development and technology transfer.
If approved, the project could help reduce Iraq’s reliance on imported pipes, support energy and water infrastructure projects, create jobs, and strengthen local manufacturing capabilities in Basra and other provinces.
