Polymarket has expanded its short-term prediction markets beyond cryptocurrencies by launching 15-minute trading markets for gold and silver through an expanded partnership with Chainlink. The move allows users to predict whether precious metal prices will rise or fall over short periods, with more commodities, stocks and foreign exchange markets expected to follow.
The announcement was made by Chainlink on October 29, naming itself Polymarket’s official oracle provider for high-speed up-and-down markets.
The launch builds on Polymarket’s existing short-duration cryptocurrency markets, which allow traders to take positions on price movements over five- and 15-minute periods.
According to Chainlink, these crypto markets have already generated more than $11 billion in combined trading volume. The company sees the expansion into precious metals as another step toward bringing traditional financial markets into blockchain-based prediction platforms.
Gold and silver are the first non-crypto assets introduced under the expanded partnership. Chainlink confirmed that both markets are now live, while additional commodities are expected to come next, followed by equities and foreign exchange markets.
Neal Kumar, Polymarket’s chief legal officer, said the partnership with Chainlink would allow traders to participate in markets covering a wider range of assets around the clock.
He explained that reliable and fast price information is essential for expanding these markets and ensuring that trading outcomes are settled accurately.
The partnership uses Chainlink Data Streams and the Chainlink Runtime Environment to provide pricing information. This infrastructure is designed to deliver reliable market data even during periods of high volatility, blockchain congestion or cloud service disruptions.
Under the new system, Chainlink price feeds determine whether a market resolves as Up or Down.
According to Polymarket’s documentation, each market uses a specific asset pair, starting time and trading duration. The price recorded at the beginning becomes the benchmark that traders must beat.
At the end of the 15-minute period, the system checks the final price using the same Chainlink data stream.
If the final price is equal to or higher than the opening benchmark, the market resolves as Up. If the final price is lower, the outcome is Down.
This means that even if an asset’s price remains unchanged during the period, the market resolves in favor of Up under the documented rules.
Polymarket uses a different process for these price-based markets compared with its traditional prediction markets, which rely on UMA for outcome resolution.
In UMA-based markets, participants can propose an outcome, which normally enters a two-hour challenge period. If another participant disputes the result, the market may go through additional proposals and a token-holder voting process.
The Chainlink-based up-and-down markets instead use predefined price data and comparison rules, avoiding that proposal-and-dispute process for price settlement.
The expanded partnership also provides new opportunities for market makers and algorithmic traders.
Chainlink said market makers can access the same low-latency Data Streams used to power Polymarket’s short-duration markets. This allows trading firms and other participants to use the underlying price information when developing strategies and providing liquidity.
Chainlink’s Data Streams platform provides market information covering US stocks, exchange-traded funds, foreign exchange pairs and commodities. It also includes market-status information and indicators that help identify outdated prices or periods when markets are outside normal trading hours.
Polymarket operates through a peer-to-peer order book where users buy and sell shares representing possible outcomes.
These shares trade between $0 and $1. Once a market is resolved, winning shares can be redeemed for $1, while losing shares become worthless. Traders can also sell their positions before the market reaches its final resolution.
The price of each share reflects the market’s estimated probability of a particular outcome.
The relationship between Polymarket and Chainlink began in September 2025, when the companies announced their initial partnership to improve the accuracy of prediction market settlements.
The original integration used timestamped Chainlink Data Streams reports alongside Chainlink Automation to support onchain settlement on Polygon.
At that time, both companies also discussed exploring ways to use Chainlink technology for markets involving more subjective outcomes, in addition to straightforward asset-price predictions.
The latest expansion represents a broader step in that direction, as Polymarket moves from cryptocurrency price predictions into traditional financial assets.
Polymarket US is described as a CFTC-regulated designated contract market under the Commodity Exchange Act. However, the latest announcement does not clarify whether the newly launched gold and silver markets are available through its US-regulated platform or specify which jurisdictions can access them.
The expansion could increase Polymarket’s reach by attracting traders interested in gold, silver and other traditional financial markets rather than cryptocurrencies alone. As more commodities, equities and foreign exchange products are introduced, Chainlink’s pricing infrastructure is expected to play an important role in determining market outcomes.
