Hussein al-Karawi, head of the Belt and Road Movement organizing committee, said the United States has multiple justifications it can use to control or seize Iraqi funds, and argued this remains a serious concern for Iraq.
He claimed the issue is bigger than politics or pressure on the Iraqi government, saying there are ongoing mechanisms that allow Washington influence over Iraqi money.
Al-Karawi called on the government to take steps to free Iraqi funds from outside control, while criticizing what he described as the current government’s acceptance of U.S. policy.
He also claimed regional financial channels benefit heavily from transfers linked to Iraq, pointing to what he said are major sums moving out each year.
Al-Karawi tied the issue to broader political tensions, arguing the pressure on Iraqi funds is connected to Iraq’s regional positions and past support for Iran.
His remarks add to continuing debate inside Iraq over financial sovereignty and control of state revenues.
