Pudgy Penguins gets support as billionaire buys 117 NFTs

American billionaire and NFT collector Adam Weitsman says he purchased 117 Pudgy Penguins NFTs over the October 10–11 weekend to support the collection and encourage confidence among its community.

Weitsman announced the purchases on X on October 12, describing Pudgy Penguins as one of his favorite NFT collections. He said he wanted to support the project during a difficult period and show confidence in its community, known as the Huddle.

The acquisition comes as Pudgy Penguins records a sharp increase in weekly sales. CryptoSlam data showed that the collection generated approximately $1.50 million in sales during the seven days through October 10, marking a 125.66% increase from the previous week.

However, the available figures do not establish how much Weitsman’s purchases contributed to the increase in trading activity.

Weitsman did not disclose the total amount he spent on the 117 NFTs or provide a complete breakdown of individual purchase prices. His announcement also did not specify whether the purchases were made through one marketplace or multiple platforms.

Although he described the acquisitions as on-chain transactions, the supplied information does not include a complete list of transaction records to independently verify every purchase.

Pudgy Penguins weekly sales rise 125%

CryptoSlam data showed that Pudgy Penguins generated around $1.50 million in NFT sales during the seven days through October 10. That represented a 125.66% increase from the previous week.

The collection ranked third in weekly NFT sales, behind Courtyard and CryptoPunks.

Trading activity also increased across several measures. Pudgy Penguins recorded 196 transactions, up 151.28%, while the number of buyer addresses rose 54.10% to 94. Seller addresses increased 101.64% to 123.

These figures indicate that more trading activity took place during the reporting period. However, the data does not establish a direct connection between the sales increase and Weitsman’s later announcement.

Across the broader NFT market, weekly sales reached approximately $39.85 million, up 0.90%. Ethereum led blockchain networks with $17.60 million in sales, followed by Polygon at $8.62 million and Bitcoin at $3.55 million.

Despite the slight increase in overall sales value, the number of NFT buyers across tracked networks fell sharply during the same period.

Weitsman previously bought more than 5,000 Yuga Labs NFTs

The latest acquisition follows a larger NFT purchase announced by Weitsman in August 2025. At that time, he said he had acquired more than 5,000 digital collectibles associated with Yuga Labs.

The collection included assets from the Otherside ecosystem, such as Otherdeeds, Mega Kodas and Weapon Kodas. Weitsman described that purchase as a long-term investment and expressed interest in acquiring more digital collectibles through the secondary market.

Yuga Labs is the company behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection and the Otherside metaverse project. Otherdeeds represent digital land in that virtual world, while Koda characters are part of its ecosystem.

That acquisition was separate from Pudgy Penguins, which operates as an independent NFT brand. Both purchases, however, were accompanied by public statements from Weitsman expressing support for the projects.

His latest announcement did not clarify whether the 117 Pudgy Penguins NFTs would be held long term, traded later or used for other activities within the project.

Pudgy Penguins expands beyond NFT trading

Pudgy Penguins has developed beyond its original NFT collection by expanding into physical merchandise, gaming and licensing.

The project launched in July 2021 with 8,888 penguin-themed NFTs on Ethereum. Entrepreneur Luca Netz acquired control of the brand in 2022, after the original leadership faced criticism from holders over its progress.

Since then, the company has introduced plush toys, collectible figures, trading cards and digital experiences built around its characters.

In June 2026, Pudgy Penguins brought its Vibes trading cards to Target stores across the United States. The company has also promoted merchandise through retail partnerships, collectible releases and events.

Its digital expansion includes Pudgy World, a browser-based multiplayer experience connected to selected physical toys. Customers can scan QR codes included with certain products to access related digital features.

These initiatives are intended to introduce the brand to consumers who may have little or no experience with cryptocurrency or NFTs.

At the same time, the wider Pudgy Penguins ecosystem has faced challenges. Abstract, a consumer blockchain associated with the brand, announced plans to discontinue its network on December 15, 2026, citing financial sustainability concerns. That decision concerns the blockchain’s operations and does not mean the original Pudgy Penguins NFT collection is being discontinued.

Weitsman’s latest purchase adds another high-profile show of support for the collection. Whether it leads to sustained growth in sales or renewed interest from other collectors remains to be seen.
