Releases from Mosul Dam have decreased to 1750 m3 per second towards the Tigris River.

An informed source said on Saturday that water releases from the Mosul Dam into the Tigris River have dropped to 1,750 cubic meters per second after a decline in water coming from Turkey.

The source explained that the releases were previously around 2,000 cubic meters per second, but were reduced in recent hours due to lower inflows from Turkey.

According to the source, water levels in the Tigris River are expected to fall noticeably in areas stretching from Nineveh to Salah al-Din and down to the Samarra Dam.

The source also said that part of the high water flow is being redirected toward the Tharthar Depression, which Iraq uses as a major strategic water reserve during drought periods.

He added that any future increase or decrease in water releases will mainly depend on the amount of water arriving from Turkey and the level of storage inside the Mosul Dam reservoir, which is the largest dam reservoir in Iraq.
