The redenomination of the Iraqi dinar (IQD) is a prevalent concern within the dinar community, and the anxiety is articulated as follows. Iraq eliminates the zeros and mandates a 1,000-to-1 exchange for every note. The foreign investor who has waited two decades…ends up with only a small portion of their original holdings…Iraq is not undertaking this entire operation to devalue its currency…The entire strategy indicates a singular direction, which is upward…Removing the zeros alters the appearance of the currency, not its purchasing power. A 25,000 dinar note transforms into a 25 note, prices decrease by the same three zeros, and purchasing power remains unaffected. This is a matter of domestic financial management. Iraq retrieves its own cash from the streets through authorized counters, exchanges old notes for new ones or an electronic balance, and disposes of the returned currency. [Post 1 of 2]
