Robinhood has officially launched cryptocurrency trading for eligible customers in the United Kingdom, allowing users to buy and sell more than 50 digital assets directly through its investing app.
The rollout begins this week and gives UK customers access to popular cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and HYPE. Trading services are being provided through Bitstamp UK, the crypto exchange Robinhood acquired for $200 million in 2025.
According to the company, users will not be charged trading fees, custody fees, or account maintenance fees. However, currency conversion fees start at 0.1%, with some weekend conversions carrying a higher fee of 0.3%.
The launch follows Robinhood’s recent registration with the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), which allows the company to offer crypto services under the country’s current regulatory framework.
Robinhood said cryptocurrencies held through Bitstamp UK are not protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) or the Financial Ombudsman Service, meaning customers do not receive the same protections available for some traditional financial products.
Alongside crypto trading, Robinhood is also introducing a new artificial intelligence feature called Cortex Digests for Crypto. The tool analyzes market data, technical indicators, and news events to help explain price movements and provide additional information for investors.
The company sees digital assets as an increasingly important part of investment portfolios and views the UK launch as another step toward becoming a full-service investment platform.
The expansion comes as Robinhood continues to build its presence in the crypto industry. In addition to operating through Bitstamp, the company has developed Robinhood Chain, its own blockchain network built on Arbitrum technology. Robinhood says the network has already processed significant trading activity since its launch.
Despite growing its crypto offerings, Robinhood recently reported lower cryptocurrency trading revenue during the second quarter. Crypto transaction revenue fell 38% from a year earlier to $100 million. However, the company still posted strong overall financial results, with total revenue rising 32% year-over-year and net income increasing 48%.
Robinhood has also continued expanding beyond crypto, launching new investment products, growing its prediction markets business, and pursuing venture capital opportunities aimed at giving retail investors access to private companies at earlier stages of growth.
With the UK crypto launch now underway, Robinhood is positioning itself to compete more aggressively in the British digital asset market ahead of upcoming changes to the country’s crypto regulations.
