Solana continued operating normally despite an infrastructure issue that temporarily affected part of its validator network on August 12, according to Solana Foundation executive Jacob Creech.

During the disruption, 597 of the network’s 699 staked validators continued voting, allowing block production and transaction processing to continue without interruption. The affected validators recovered within about 40 minutes.

Creech said validators participating in the Solana Foundation Delegation Program were not impacted. Solana’s official status page also reported no mainnet outage and showed 100% uptime for the Mainnet Beta network over the past 90 days.

Although the network remained online, the incident briefly reduced the amount of active staking power participating in consensus. Data from Marinade Finance showed that nearly 29% of staked SOL became temporarily inactive for around 33 minutes. Solana requires more than two-thirds of staked tokens to remain active for transactions to reach finality, meaning the network came relatively close to a level where finality could have been affected.

The disruption was linked to a routing problem at infrastructure provider Teraswitch. According to the company, a malformed network route originated from its Miami facility and spread through parts of its European and Asia-Pacific infrastructure. The issue temporarily affected connectivity at several locations, including London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Singapore, and Tokyo.

Engineers identified the problem within minutes and isolated the affected systems, restoring services shortly afterward. Teraswitch has since implemented additional safeguards to reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future, while a full investigation remains ongoing.

The event also highlighted concerns about infrastructure concentration within the Solana ecosystem. Analysts noted that a significant portion of staked SOL was connected to the same infrastructure provider, meaning a single network issue was able to affect a large amount of voting power at the same time.

Unlike previous network disruptions that required coordinated restarts, this incident did not interrupt Solana’s operations. Blocks continued to be produced, transactions were processed normally, and users experienced no network-wide outage.

Going forward, infrastructure providers and validator operators are expected to review redundancy measures and reduce dependence on single points of failure. The incident served as a real-world test of Solana’s resilience and demonstrated the network’s ability to remain operational during a major infrastructure disruption.
