Economic expert Faleh al-Zubaidi said on Saturday that the United States uses its influence over the dollar and the global financial system as a way to pressure countries, including Iraq, to achieve its political and economic goals.
Al-Zubaidi stated that the recent visit of U.S. envoy Tom Barrack to Iraq is part of broader efforts by Washington to advance its interests in the country. He argued that the U.S. often relies on its dominance of the international financial system to influence the decisions of other nations.
According to al-Zubaidi, Iraq could face economic and financial pressure if it does not respond to certain American demands or policies. He said these tools are sometimes used to secure strategic advantages and strengthen U.S. influence.
He stressed that Iraq should work toward greater financial independence by reducing its reliance on external financial systems and strengthening its own economic capabilities. In his view, building a more self-reliant economy would help protect Iraq’s economic sovereignty and reduce its vulnerability to outside pressure.
Al-Zubaidi concluded that the current challenges highlight the importance of diversifying Iraq’s economic options and developing policies that give the country greater control over its financial future.
