Security forces have arrested a man believed to be one of the most active counterfeit dollar dealers in Iraq’s Middle Euphrates region following a weeks-long intelligence operation.
According to a security source, investigators worked across several governorates to identify and track one of the region’s most well-known counterfeit currency promoters. The suspect was eventually arrested in a carefully planned ambush near Kut, the capital of Wasit Governorate.
Authorities reportedly found more than 300 counterfeit US dollar bills in his possession at the time of the arrest.
The source said the suspect was involved in distributing fake dollars through various methods and had connections with other counterfeit currency promoters operating in different governorates.
Officials stated that the operation was part of broader efforts to combat the spread of counterfeit foreign currency. After gathering intelligence and monitoring the suspect’s movements, security forces were able to locate and arrest him.
The suspect remains in custody while investigations continue, and authorities are working to uncover the full extent of the network and identify any additional individuals involved in the illegal operation.
