Member of Parliament Ali al-Daraji revealed on Monday that strong parliamentary pressure is currently underway to pass and amend several long-delayed strategic laws inside the Iraqi Parliament.

Al-Daraji said a number of lawmakers are leading a broad effort focused on pushing forward four major laws that directly affect large segments of Iraqi society.

According to him, the proposed amendments include the employee salary scale law, the military service law, the retirement law, and the law related to the rights of martyrs.

He explained that Parliament is continuing to apply pressure to ensure these laws are approved and amended in a way that guarantees fairness and social justice for the groups covered by them.

Al-Daraji stressed that many of these laws have remained stalled for a long time despite their importance to citizens and state institutions.

Earlier, MP Abbas Hayal also stated that Parliament is close to voting on a package of important laws and legislation that have been delayed for years.

He said the coming period is expected to witness the approval of laws that will directly impact citizens’ daily lives as well as Iraq’s security institutions.
