General Food Assistance

In September, the World Food Programme (WFP) continued to support vulnerable communities across Iraq.

  • Over 6,000 people (1,690 households) residing in the Al-Amal Rehabilitation Centre (formerly Jed’ah 1 Centre) in Ninewa Governorate received e-vouchers to meet their food needs.
  • Nearly 3,000 individuals (666 households) without civil documentation across Baghdad, Salah Al-Din, Kirkuk, Ninewa, Diyala, and Babel governorates received cash assistance to improve food security and household stability.

Economic Empowerment, Livelihood, and Climate

  • 🌿 Mangrove Plantation Programme – Basra:
On 23 September 2025, WFP and the Mangrove Plantation Committee in Basra Governorate reviewed progress and set priorities for the ongoing mangrove restoration initiative.
During the current planting season (September–December 2025), around 700,000 seedlings are planned, bringing the total number planted in 2024–2025 to over one million seedlings.
This effort contributes to environmental restoration, biodiversity conservation, and coastal protection.
  • 🚜 Climate-Smart Agriculture – Ninewa:
On 21 September, WFP conducted a training programme for Water User Association members in Ninewa Governorate on Zero-Tillage (ZT) farming techniques and equipment maintenance.
This training supports climate-smart agriculture, helping farmers increase productivity, preserve soil quality, and adapt to changing climatic conditions.
  • 🌍 Community Climate Resilience – Diyala:
On 18 September, WFP launched a kick-off workshop under the World Bank–WFP “Communities Inspired Voices for Vital Climate Action (CIVIC)” initiative in Diyala Governorate.
The event brought together 22 representatives from key government institutions to design a climate perception and awareness campaign.
The initiative aims to strengthen institutional capacity, promote local climate awareness, and empower communities to lead their own resilience-building efforts.
