Iraq’s Federal Commission of Integrity has announced the discovery of IQD 2.5 billion (about USD 1.9 million) in cash at the home of a former head of the accounts department in Salahadin Governorate, who is currently being held pending investigation.
According to the commission, the operation was carried out by a specialized team from its Salahadin office under a judicial warrant.
Investigators also identified six properties registered in the name of the suspect’s wife within investment housing compounds. Found
The former official is being investigated under Article 340 of Iraq’s Penal Code in connection with allegations involving the issuance of a cheque from Rafidain Bank. The cheque was reportedly intended to cover salary payments and financial entitlements for governorate employees, but investigators claim it included fictitious receipts.
The Commission of Integrity stated that an official seizure report was prepared and submitted to the relevant investigative judge, who will oversee the next stage of legal proceedings. The investigation remains ongoing.
