The Central Bank of Iraq has reported a decline in the country’s foreign reserves during the second quarter of 2026, continuing a downward trend seen over the past few months.

According to a statement from the bank, foreign reserves stood at approximately 118.947 trillion Iraqi dinars on May 28, down from 120.675 trillion dinars on May 21. This represents a decrease of 1.728 trillion dinars, or about 1.43%, in just one week.

The decline was also visible on a monthly basis. Reserves totaled around 127.152 trillion dinars in April, compared to 130.443 trillion dinars in March. The figures show a gradual reduction in Iraq’s reserve assets between March and the end of May.

Despite the decline, the Central Bank noted that gold remains a major component of its reserve holdings. The value of gold included in the official reserves reached approximately 32.973 trillion dinars.

The bank said gold continues to play an important role in strengthening reserves and protecting the country’s financial position, especially during periods of economic uncertainty and fluctuations in global markets. central bank’s
