Iraq’s parliamentary Investment and Development Committee has held a workshop to discuss proposed amendments to Investment Law No. 13 of 2006. The session was held under the patronage of Deputy Speaker Adnan Fayhan.

According to the National Investment Commission (NIC), the workshop brought together members of the parliamentary investment committee, other lawmakers, heads of provincial investment commissions and representatives of relevant government bodies.

Participants reviewed the proposed amendments and discussed the need for a clearer legal framework to support investment institutions, address problems affecting project implementation and improve coordination between the NIC and provincial investment commissions.

NIC Chairman Adel Dakhil Muhammad al-Yasiri said the commission took part to help improve the proposed legislation. The aim is to simplify procedures, make the law clearer and make Iraq more attractive to investors.

Further meetings are planned at NIC headquarters, bringing together the commission’s chairman and heads of provincial investment commissions. These discussions will focus on the technical and legal details before the draft amendments are finalized.
