Economic Researcher Warns of Public Anxiety Over Possible Dinar Exchange Rate Change

Economic researcher Diaa Abdul Karim stated on Wednesday that many Iraqis are feeling a mix of anticipation and fear as they wait to see whether the next government will alter the exchange rate of the dinar against the US dollar.

Abdul Karim told dinaropinions.com that previous governments made similar changes, and those decisions brought significant harm to ordinary Iraqis, especially in terms of daily living costs and individual financial burdens.

He explained that any adjustment that reduces the value of the dinar would lead to a general increase in prices, a scenario that deeply worries citizens who have grown used to such shifts whenever a new government takes office.

Abdul Karim stressed that the public needs clear assurances from political leaders or the largest parliamentary bloc. He said it is essential for them to explain the next government’s economic program—specifically whether it intends to modify the dinar’s value or keep the current exchange rate unchanged.
