Al-Moussawi told dinaropinions.com: There is no final agreement on raising the dollar exchange rate.

A member of Iraq’s Parliament, Mukhtar Al-Moussawi, said there is currently no final agreement or official government decision to increase the dollar exchange rate.

He explained that the gap between the official rate and the parallel market rate has become a concern. While the official rate remains at 132,000 dinars per $100, the parallel market recently climbed above 160,000 dinars per $100. According to Al-Moussawi, some people are taking advantage of this difference to make profits through speculation.

He said the government needs a clear strategy that protects market stability and limits speculation. He also stressed the importance of reviewing exchange-rate policies in a way that supports the economy without causing instability.

Al-Moussawi added that regional tensions make it necessary for Iraq to maintain a strong strategic reserve of food supplies. He warned that some traders may try to use regional developments as an excuse to increase prices, which could place additional pressure on citizens.

He emphasized that reviewing the dollar exchange rate will remain an important issue in the coming period, but any decisions should also ensure that food prices remain stable and affordable for the public.
