Iraqi MP Qusay al-Shabaki said signatures have been collected inside Parliament to move forward with introducing and approving the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) service and retirement law during the current parliamentary session.

Speaking to dinaropinions.com, al-Shabaki explained that lawmakers from several political blocs, including members of the Badr bloc, have spent recent days gathering parliamentary support for the legislation so it can be formally presented, discussed, and voted on.

He said Parliament is serious about passing the PMF law because it affects a broad segment of Iraqi society and is not limited to one specific group. According to him, the PMF includes many different formations and groups, including tribal forces.

Al-Shabaki also stated that if the bill reaches a parliamentary vote, he expects it to pass during the current session rather than being delayed, especially because of the large number of people connected to the PMF structure and retirement system.

The proposed law is expected to focus on service rights, retirement benefits, and the legal organization of PMF personnel within Iraq’s state institutions.
