Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi has directed the supply of subsidized fuel to private electricity generators throughout September in an effort to support power availability and ease pressure on citizens during periods of high demand.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office, private generators will receive fuel at a rate of 40 liters per hour per watt at a subsidized price of 400 Iraqi dinars per liter for the entire month.
The directive also requires operators to adhere to the approved electricity supply schedule, with private generators providing a minimum of 20 hours of service per day in coordination with the national power grid.
The government said the measure is intended to maintain a stable and sustainable electricity supply by ensuring continuous alternation between the national grid and private generators, helping to reduce power shortages and improve service reliability for households and businesses.
The decision comes as authorities continue efforts to strengthen electricity services and meet growing demand across the country.
